The Giving Closet
The Giving Closet is where Durham County residents can receive free infant, toddler, children and maternity clothing, as well as accessories and baby equipment.

Giving Closet Eligibility and Requirements
Shoppers must:

be a Durham County resident
-
be 4 months pregnant and/or have at least one child ages newborn to 5 years
-
provide valid photo identification (driver's license, state ID, passport, school ID, embassy ID) each time you visit the Giving Closet

Verify residency once a year (provide utility bill, lease, Medicaid card, mail addressed to you, etc.)
-
Birth certificate or Mother´s copy for each child under 5

Legal guardians/foster parents must provide documentation of children in care.

Giving Closet is drive through style and contactless delivery. Families can line up in their cars on Foster street.
What does a typical visit to The Giving Closet look like?

Shoppers will receive

Clothing items for their child based on age and gender

accessories (socks, bibs, blankets, shoes, books, bottles, etc.)

1 large piece of equipment (if available)

Diapers 1 pack. They are distributed based on the child's age and weight.
